The community of Pueblo West grew out of Sun Lake Ranch that was sold to McCulloch properties in the late 1960’s. Arthur and Rose Ann Stegall, owners of the ranch land, also donated the Pueblo West Community Church building, plus five acres of land to the community. The land was donated with one stipulation- any denomination could become owners of the church, free and clear, as long as they could show they had the ability to support it. Our mother church in Pueblo, First Southern Baptist, along with the Home Mission Board, accepted the challenge.
In 1972, we had neither a pastor nor pews, but we did have our first service with the area missionary preaching and nine people present. Vern Mitchell was soon called as our first pastor and the mission continued to grow. We grew from mission status to church status in early 1974, and our church was named Pueblo West Baptist Church. Today we are the oldest church building in Pueblo West.
