August Calendar
This year our church’s day working the Baptist Association’s booth at the fair is Sept 4 from 11am until 11pm. If you are interested in helping, please see Carol Waldenmeyer (547-8064). The Association is giving us ten fair tickets so get your name in early to get a ticket. There will be some changes this year so a meeting will be held before the fair to go over everything with us. They would like the day divided into 3 four hour shifts. We can have as many in a shift as we like, then decide how we want to work it. The booth is giving out free water and making Salvation Bracelets with the kids!
The “Sonshine Ladies” Breakfast will be Saturday, August 8th at 9:00 am, at Diana Tanner’s home. We will meet at 8:15 am at the church if you would like to car pool to Diana’s. It will be potluck and all ladies are invited!!
Business Meeting is on August 12th at 7:00 pm!
On August 16th, after church, we will be having a Family Picnic at the Fun Putter in Pueblo. It will be a potluck picnic and after the picnic there will be activities for all ages: mini-golf, batting cages, a maze, and water fun!
There will be a Deacon's Meeting on August 19th at 7:30 pm!
The September Newsletter Deadline is August 26th!
The Young at Heart will be going to a Sky Sox Baseball Game on Friday, August 28th! If you would like to go, please see Ken Eaton for more info.
Our Annual Church Picnic is being planned for Sunday, September 6th after church! It will be out at Pastor & Diana’s home, in Beulah! It will be a great day of fellowship, food, and relaxation! This will be a potluck lunch! We hope you will put this event on your calendar! More information will be available as the date gets closer. Be sure to check your church bulletins!
“CRAFTY LADIES” are meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 1:30 pm in the Educational Building. Bring whatever kind of craft you are working on and come for some fun and fellowship with others. Refreshments are served.
The Beth Moore Women's Bible Study for the fall will begin Sept 15, Tues evening from 6:30-8:30 pm. The 10 week study of "Esther: It's Tough Being a Woman" is an "in-depth and very personal examination of this great story of threat and deliverance. If you've ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the study for you. Just as it was tough being a woman in Esther's day, it's tough today. Beth peels back the layers of history and shows how very contemporary and applicable the story of Esther is to us…in our hurried, harried, and pressured lives." Member books will be $20 and registration will be taken until September 6. Please see Cheryl O for questions or call the church at 547-2858.

August Sunday School Feature
Article from our Sunday School Superintendent, Esther Nagel
Our “Feature of the Month” is Taianna Gary. Taianna is the daughter of Gibb and Tracy Gary. Taianna is 7 years old and will be attending Desert Sage School this Fall. Her SS teacher is Laura Arellano. Taianna has 3 brothers to contend with but manages to stand her own ground. I asked Taianna , Why I like Sunday School… “Because of the Crafts. I get to memorize a Bible Verse every Sunday. I am learning the books of the Bible.”
Taken from LifeWay “Connect” Booklet: “If you are wondering about enrolling as a member of a SS Class”’…’enrolling as a member of a SS Class does not make you a member of the church, nor does it obligate you to become one’ If you have questions about SS for you or your children please feel free to ask/call the Pastor or myself (547-4524) and we would be glad to help/visit with you.
WARNING: Exposure to the Son may prevent burning.

August Preschool Church News
Article by Carol Waldenmeyer
It's been a very busy week here at PWBC. Bible School has come and gone but the warm feelings we have are still just as real as when the children were here. They were all so excited about the train and all the fun things each teacher had planned for them to do from the singing to the stories to the crafts, games, snacks and of course the snow cones. Be sure to stop in the foyer and have a look at the pictures. Now that the seed has been planted in the hearts of the children we must remember them in prayer each day. Thank you so much to all who helped make this Bible School and big success.
HERE, KNOW AND DO- In Preschool church we want to build spiritual foundations and help children understand what it means to please God.
Preschoolers HEAR the truths in the Bible stories and activities provided for them each week. They begin to KNOW Bible truths as they see pictures and items that relate to Bible stories and they can DO Bible truths as they express what they learn through music art and drama such as being kind, showing love to one another and learning to live what the Bible says. Can children really begin to HEAR, KNOW and DO God's truth? Yes they can.
Children live what they are taught. How's your preschooler living?
In August we will be teaching about Jesus and why he came to this earth. It wasn't just to hang around with friends. There was a purpose and your preschooler is going to learn just what that purpose was.
August 2nd- Jesus chose helpers
August 9th- Jesus taught about being kind
August 16th-Jesus taught about God's care
August 23rd-Jesus taught about love
August 30th-Jesus taught us to remember Him.
Be sure to have your preschooler in church each week so he won't miss out on all the fun!

Choir News
The choir will begin rehearsing in September so please be praying about your participation in this ministry. The exact date to begin will be announced later but in general, the schedule will likely be Rehearsals for 2 weeks with a break for 2 weeks, and rotating on and off. Rehearsals have been Sunday evenings at 5 pm in the past and most likely will remain at the same time. The choir really needs additional members to be as effective as we would like to be. With a rotating schedule, we hope to be able to recruit new singers who might not be able to dedicate every week to rehearsals. The choir would likely sing for both services once every 5-6 weeks.
Please pray about becoming involved in this important ministry in our church. Singers do not have to be able to read music in order to join the choir-- just have an ear for music. We look forward to our prior members returning and adding to their numbers with new voices. Watch for an exact start date in the bulletin and next month's newsletter.

Tanner's Trails for August
Well, the trail led to Australia this week, as the Vacation Bible School theme used trains, kangaroos, and boomerangs to illustrate Bible Truths. Apparently, the kids, parents, and leadership all loved the excitement of learning and loving in Christ as enrollment grew everyday!
We especially are grateful for the Spinuzzis who built the massive steam engine for the sanctuary. Also, the Waldenmeyers who took care of recreation and snacks, the Moores who taught 1-2 grade and did crafts, and Janice Reitan who worked the nursery. The Edward’s & Diana Tanner worked with the preschoolers. The Haddad’s who taught 3-4 grade and the Miller’s who taught the 5-6 grade. Trina Byrd, Cheryl Orazem, the Lizers, the Deulens & Sharon Spinuzzi all helped throughout the week. And John Tanner and Gary & Brad Spinuzzi made the Sno cones!
VBS is a tremendous investment of time, energy, and love towards kids. Many of our enrollees had their first experience in Bible Study. Please pray that they and their parents will continue to learn more of Jesus throughout the coming year.
Throughout the week, our offering collection grew into the $100s. Again this year the total will go to Laura Nelson, a Southern Baptist Missionary to Ethiopia. Last year 32 kids were able to attend grade school due to uniforms provided by PWBC VBS.
See you Sunday,
Pastor John Tanner

about pwbc...
The community of Pueblo West grew out of Sun Lake Ranch that was sold to McCulloch properties in the late 1960’s. Arthur and Rose Ann Stegall, owners of the ranch land, also donated the Pueblo West Community Church building, plus five acres of land to the community. The land was donated with one stipulation- any denomination could become owners of the church, free and clear, as long as they could show they had the ability to support it. Our mother church in Pueblo, First Southern Baptist, along with the Home Mission Board, accepted the challenge.
In 1972, we had neither a pastor nor pews, but we did have our first service with the area missionary preaching and nine people present. Vern Mitchell was soon called as our first pastor and the mission continued to grow. We grew from mission status to church status in early 1974, and our church was named Pueblo West Baptist Church. Today we are the oldest church building in Pueblo West.

To Know Christ and To Make Him Known
